Lifeventure Thermal Mug: The Review
I have been a longtime fan of Lifeventure gear, back from my first solo trip to Peru nearly a decade ago now. They are easy to access, being sold both online and in nearly every outdoor store going, but they are also affordable too.
I always check out their stand at the National Outdoor Expo each year, to see what’s new and what would be worth reviewing. I refilled my essentials (you should always have a first aid kit) and I treated myself to a Lifeventure travel mug, to see how the much more affordable brand would hold up against the likes of my favourite Stanley Trigger Action.
First Impressions
Looking at the Lifeventure Thermal Mug, it’s perfectly respectable in its looks. It won’t exactly win any design awards and is fairly basic in its looks, but it seems good enough to do the job. The mug feels solid with its stainless steel design. It is very much a no-thrills mug, with no added benefits like the filtration of the Water to Go Active.
Packability
The slim form of the Thermal Mug means it easily fits into my bag’s pockets. It is small so there aren’t any issues with it falling out of shallow side pockets. With no handles, it slides into pockets and bags easily without snagging or getting caught on other items in the bag.
Keeping the heat in and out
The Lifeventure Thermal Mug claims it can keep drinks hot for up to six hours.I usually favour cold drinks but for the sake of testing I switched to a few hot chocolates. I found it pretty reasonable at keeping my drinks hot. I think others may be a bit better, but considering the price I think value for money its a great option for the majority of users.
For cold drinks I have had no issue at all, with this even keeping cool on really hot days. I will admit I give it a little bit of a boost with some ice. But often find whole cubes still in there hours after I have forgotten about my drink.
Usage
Taking the entire lid off and its wide opening make it really easy and comfortable to drink out of the Lifeventure Travel Mug. I will admit I am not the biggest fan of this lid. It doesn’t feel as secure as it should be. It’s fine if I was holding it but if I was to put it on the inside of my bag, I would be a bit concerned and it would become unscrewed.
As of yet nothing has happened and I have had no leaks, but you never know. If it’s kept in a side-pocket then I feel a lot more comfortable, as I know it’s going to stay upright and is away from anything precious.
Lifeventure Thermal Mug: Final Thoughts
The Lifeventure Thermal Mug is a great little travel companion. The price is reasonable, and the results are great. Lifeventure gear is frequently recommended for the Duke of Edinburgh award, which just serves as a testament to its quality. Of course there are better options out there, but that will always come at a higher price. So unless you need an all singing all dancing Thermal Mug, why pay more?
