K&F Concept 16 Slots Card & Battery Case: The Review

SD cards feel like the bane of my existence. My approach is a bit unconventional – instead of emptying them, I simply grab a new one (a somewhat silly system, but it works for me). This not only speeds up the process but also provides a backup until I get home, just in case something happens to my SSD. This habit gained extra justification after my experience at Heathrow Airport, as detailed in my account here. However, given the frequency with which I travel, I tend to accumulate quite a few. Meaning I need for a dedicated storage solution. After a search on Amazon, I came across the K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case. A bit of a mouthful for the name, but it has a few features that really impressed me, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Design

The K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case is made of what feels like durable plastic. With a rubber insert that acts as a seal. With the latch on the front I feel pretty confident about its waterproofing. While I certainly don’t plan on taking it swimming anytime soon, after a few trips where bottles have leaked in my bag, I am confident that this is going to be a safe choice.

Water Resistance

So it’s important to know that the K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case is water resistant, not waterproof. The same rubber interior that protects against shocks seals tightly with a clamp style lock on the front. They aren’t making any claims that it’s going to keep your memory cards and batteries safe in the event of full submersion. But if it’s in your bag and it rains heavily, or a bottle leaks, then it’s going to be perfectly fine. I had a can of cola leak in my bag in Singapore and I was stuck with sticky batteries for days. If it was in this it would have been fine.

SD Card Storage

The Memory cards fit really easily into their dedicated slots. The hard part is removing them. I often have to carry a SIM card remover. There’s a little empty square though that fits one almost perfectly. This model fits x6 Micro SD cards, x4 SD cards and x2 CF / XQD cards.

Battery Storage Indicator

In addition to accommodating memory cards, the K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case includes two designated slots for camera batteries. Each of these slots is versatile, capable of holding either a camera battery or 4 AA or AAA batteries.

A small addition I really love is the battery indicator next to each compartment. It’s a simple switch you can use to mark the battery as full or empty. Upon swapping out your camera’s battery for a new one, ensure to promptly flip the switch to mark it as dead. This prevents any inadvertent grabs of the empty battery when you require the third one, ensuring you don’t miss a crucial shot. It’s a low tech, simple solution to a common issue making it a massive improvement to its usage.

Usage

I’ve practically been taking the K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case with me everytime I go out to do photography. It’s nice having everything in one space, when a memory card gets full or a battery dies I can easily replace it. I usually keep it in the top side mesh pocket of my Db Hugger so it’s quick to grab. I’m always forgetting which battery is full so the little indicator has become really useful. I do find the SD cards a little tricky to remove as I don’t have nails. I usually keep a sim card remover inside it though to make it easier.

K&F Concept 16 Slots Card & Battery Case: Final Thoughts

The K&F Concept 16 Slots Memory Card & Camera Battery Case is a great addition to any photographer’s kit. If you’re a new photographer or know someone taking it up as a hobby, this is a great first accessory. Seasoned pros will equally love it for its protection and organisational features.
