Rolling Square SuperTiny Review

I always make a comment on Rolling Square’s packaging but I love the all cardboard designs in their commitment to sustainability. I chose to get a UK version of the SuperTiny, purely because I spend the most of my time here and it’ll be easier to test. But its tempting to get a dedicated EU for travel. I have multi-country travel adaptors, but they are always so slow.

I like the compact design though, I thought the choice of ridges along the side was just for aesthetics, so I’m impressed to see this is to to make handling it when it heats up from charging easier.

The SuperTiny name is no joke,  it’s small enough I usually have to empty my bag to try and find it. But its pocket size is great, I have so much stuff in my bag, adding bulk and extra weight. I don’t want to carry that with me all day, so every gram that can be shaved off I am grateful for. The UK version is a little bit larger, since it needs to accommodate three prongs instead of two. But the difference isn’t colossal.

This is a GaN charger, allowing the technology inside to dissipate heat easier. This in turn allows the charger to achieve its small and compact size. GaN has been a revolution for plug sockets, and honestly I wouldn’t purchase one nowadays that doesn’t take advantage of the technology.

It is worth noting that the US version the pins are foldable, meaning the SuperTiny can fold down into a neat and tiny cube. Sadly the EU and UK versions lack this feature, which is a shame as it really improves the packability.

Regardless of what region you choose for the SuperTiny, all options charge at a respectable 65w. I chose the UK version as it would be easier for me to test, and I have found it to be rapid when charging. I had an issue where multiple of my devices reached low battery at the same time. My Anker Nano power bank managed to reach 100% before the first one device died. Allowing me to use that and the SuperTiny to charge the other two.

The Rolling Square SuperTiny comes with EU, UK and US options. Unfortunately they are set plugs so you do have to pick one and commit. I got a UK version as that would get the most usage, but I spend so much time in the EU it’s tempting to pick up a specific one for that region. Multi-region travel adaptors are great, but they are always a lot slower. Even Rolling Square’s own Pocket Travel Charger only comes in at 25w.  

I would love to see a future version that allows you to swap . Just being able to slide off the end to change it to EU or US would be amazing. I don’t need multiple options on my trips, its extremely rare I would be going from Europe to the US without stopping off at home. But that would allow me to have an actual travel charger which works at speeds I’m used to at home.

The SuperTiny only comes with one USB C port at this time, which is understandable. As soon as you add a second or third, to accommodate more ports the size increases, impacting its portability. Maybe in the future they may add some slightly larger versions with more ports, as one is great for daily use, but two or three are ideal for when travelling.

Rolling Square do have a GaN Charger that has more ports, but it is much bigger. So there is always a trade off. Whether you prefer ultra compact size of the SuperTiny, or your willing to bring something larger to charge more tech together.

At the time of the review, the Rolling Square SuperTiny does retail at almost £50. Now that is a bit pricey for a charger, considering as well some of the competitors on the market are almost half that. The Anker 735 I reviewed last year has more outlets, the same charge speeds and is £34.99 at full price. The compromise to this is it is larger, but only slightly. They also don’t have a EU version that I can find. 

This issue often comes with making tech smaller, the smaller you make something the more expensive it becomes. So it is understandable, but this may be more suited for those who really want an ultra compact kit.

It’s hard not to love the compact design of the SuperTiny. Small gadgets will always have a place in my tech pouch. The fast charging and lightweight design means I can top up my charge when I have a break in a coffee shop and leave my power bank for when I really need it. I was at an expo recently, and used it to recharge between meetings. I did have a power bank with me, but I knew the day would long extend into the evening and I wanted it for emergencies. Also the SuperTiny’s speeds far exceeded the power bank, and within half an hour I was almost back to a 100%.

Personally, I would sacrifice a bit of that size to have a second USB-C port. I think that would be the perfect middle ground, particularly for my tech lifestyle. And I would love to see Rolling Square take the fast charging of their existing products, and add that to a universal travel adaptor.
