I always believe you should have a small torch on you when you travel. I know it’s easy to think your phone is sufficient, but having a dedicated torch can be valuable for numerous reasons. They can be brighter, less desirable to steal in public and less likely to be out of charge than your phone. So when checking out the latest travel gear at the National Outdoor Expo, I bumped into the Nebo stand. Nebo sent me their LuxTreme Nano torch to review along with the Rambler 20k battery pack.

Nebo Luxtreme Nano: First Impressions
There are a lot of pocket lights on the market, all of which vary in quality. But you can often tell them apart just by looking at them. You can immediately tell that the Nebo Luxtreme Nano is a quality light though. It feels solid in the hand, with a primarily metal construction. I can’t see any areas of cheap plastic that could easily be broken. I did a few quick tests and it looked quite powerful but I was at a brightly lit expo so it wasn’t the best test.

Packability
Being this compact, it’s perfect to pack in your bag or pocket. Even if it’s as small as a mini bag or purse, you can easily slip this in anywhere. You aren’t even going to notice an extra 36g of weight in your bag, but when you need a torch you’ll be thankful you brought it. The slim and small profile of the Luxtreme Nano flashlight means you can take it everywhere.
Nebo Luxtreme Nano Handling
Unfortunately the small size of the LuxTreme does have the downside of affecting handling. It is perfectly fine for normal use but if you wear gloves then it can be a bit trickier to use. So if you are using it outside in the winter or in cold destinations you may struggle to press the buttons or even hold it correctly.
But otherwise without gloves it is fine. I brought it with me on a recent trip to Croatia. I was staying outside of Dubrovnik in a resort and the walk from the hotel to restaurants wasn’t the best lighting. So I just carried it with me to stop myself tripping over in the dark.
Brightness & beam performance
There is a massive difference between the highest and lowest settings on the Luxtreme Nano. At its max power it can put out 420 lumens, allowing the light beam to reach 300m, but this is only for 30 seconds at a time. Even at its lowest setting the torch can reach a distance of 52m which is a lot more practical. Although it’s called lowest, it’s still plenty bright enough for 99% of what you need, and means it is far less likely to run out of battery mid use. Battery life
To maximise the battery life, you’ll most likely only ever need to use the Luxtreme Nano on its lowest mode. The lowest setting may reduce its distance down to a still impressive 52 meters, but massively boosts the runtime to around 8 hours. In testing, this mode provided all the illumination needed without exceeding that distance, balancing visibility with endurance.

Charging
The Nebo LuxTreme has a built-in USB C charger, making it perfect for travel. By being rechargeable it helps keep the torch small and packable. Replaceable batteries take up more space, both requiring more space in the torch to fit them and you have to carry them with you. I always have a charge cable in my car, so if I was about to leave the house and the battery is low, then it’s easy to top up. No need to pull over and pick up expensive batteries in a service station.
Charging time takes 1.5 hours to go from 0% up to 100, so you might not get a full charge on a single drive, but you will get enough power for what you need. Just keep it topped up every use or so and you will never be caught short.
Durability & build quality
Having a body made from aircraft-grade aluminium means that this torch can take a bit pf punishment. I have some friends and family in the fire service take a look and they loved the tough design. They checked it out for a few weeks and it came back with not a scratch on it.
Where to use the the Luxtreme Nano
It’s small size and powerful performance makes it perfect for everywhere. Since I got it, I have taken it away with me to Centre Parcs, which was perfect for adding a bit more light to the paths. I’ve brought it out with me on photoshoots, sometimes the lighting isn’t the best and I need to find something that’s fallen to the depths of my bag.
This is perfect to carry with you everywhere, or slip into the smallest of emergency kits. I know somebody who grabbed one and put it with a small medical kit they keep in their car. Just in case something should happen, its where they’ll need it most. Another keeps it in the top pocket of their hiking kit. They never have to think about packing it because its already there waiting.
Is the Nebo Luxtreme Nano good value for money?
At the time I am writing this review, the Nebo Luxtreme Nano retails at £29.99. Now initially that can be a bit off putting when you look at the size of the torch, but don’t be deceived. You get a lot of lumens in this small package. Its functional, durable and will last you a long time, and that for me makes it worth the extra cost.
Nebo Luxtreme Nano: Final Thoughts
There are some items I will eternally debate whether or not to bring, the Nebo Luxtreme Nano is not one of those. This comes in my bag with zero hesitation, and when I am not travelling, the flashlight stays safe in my car for emergencies. It weighs next to nothing, but has all the power you could need.
