First Impressions

The AirNotch Pro Dual looks almost identical to its predecessor aside from the new grey colour scheme. The button on the side now has a little splash of orange which looks cool. I like the built in notch, I feel like it just makes sense for all trackers to have this. The Airtag from Apple performs well but relies on third party accessories to actually attach it to what you intend to track.

What’s new?

Previously you had to choose what version of the wallet tracker you wanted, white was for android users, black was for iPhone. Now there’s a third choice, a quite literal grey area in between. The Grey supports both Android and iPhone devices by integrating Google’s Find Hub and Apple’s Find My apps.

Design

I loved the design of the older generation AirNotch, and I am glad they kept its good looks with the newest version. Previously Rolling Square had white for Android and Black for Apple. So I like that they kept themes the same thematically, by combing the two to make grey. 

I love the little photoluminescent features that Rolling Square include on their AirNotchs. It makes it more visible and easier to find in the darkest recesses of my bag. There’s times when I know for certain its in there, but I don’t really want draw attention to myself. Like when I am trying to find my keys on the train so I don’t have to hunt at my door. 

The Air Family

This is part of the latest addition to Rolling Square’s family of Air products. These are the “Dual” models of the Bluetooth trackers, taking everything that made the previous generation unique, but now adding dual compatibility so that it can be used with both iPhone and Android.

Setting Up

Setting up the AirNotch Pro Dual was arguably even easier this time around. Last time with the older generation AirNotch Pro I had issues with it connecting, however the blame of this lies solely on Google’s software. There’s clearly been some updates on the app as it was trying to connect before I even got the AirNotch out of the packaging, the same can be said for the AirCard Pro Dual which Rolling Square sent to me together. 

Tracking Software

As an android user, I mostly use the Google Find Hub app, which I find really easy to use and set up. I now have a collection of AirNotchs and AirCards all of which are attached to something important. Different styles and colours do make it easier to distinguish, but giving them nicknames helps too. 

The app makes it really easy to see where my items are at all times. I know some travellers who leave a tracker in their suitcase to make sure their items have been loaded onto the plane with them. 

Why every traveller needs a Tracker

My friend PJ (@HeyPJ) once used her tracker to turn a travel mishap into a full-blown game. During a layover, she saw her suitcase’s tracker was still showing back at the first airport and was bumped to the next outgoing flight. So she asked her followers to guess whether it would make it to her connecting flight or not. Spoiler alert, it didn’t, but PJ was able to see it was metres away on the tarmac as her connecting flight departed.

Rest assured, she was reunited with her luggage eventually. But the lesson on the importance of trackers remains, in the past if the airline lost your luggage, your items were gone forever. Now with the help of trackers you have a much higher chance of being reunited again.

Using the AirNotch Pro Dual

Instead of keeping them on my keys, I keep an AirNotch Pro on my DJI Pocket Osmo 3 case as it’s too tightly packed to fit anything else. But I’ll be swapping this with the Pro Dual since the grey blends a lot better.

I took the AirNotch with on my my recent trip to Venice, and it was so much easier checking the app to make sure my camera was packed rather than checking with anxiety every few minutes like I usually do.

I use a NitIze S-Biner Microlock so it can attach securely onto my DJI case, but its design makes it easy to fit onto a keychain. It’s small size means you can be really versatile on where you use this tracker. It has a loop built into the design so its perfect for  other places too, like the attachment points inside a backpack 

Louder Speakers

Rolling Square doesn’t specify how loud the AirNotch Pro Dual is, but promises it’s louder than the Airtag alternative. I can assure you it’s plenty loud enough though. It’s has 360° speakers to provide omnidirectional sound,  so no matter where it’s fallen in your bag it’ll still hear it clearly.

As I mentioned on the AirCard Pro Dual, the ringing of one of these tags has become a calling to my family I have yet again lost something. But it means I can find them a lot quicker rather than spending 30 minutes hunting for them.

Rugged Design

The AirNotch Pro Dual is designed to hang onto your keyring, so its going to be much more likely to take knocks than its AirCard partner. My keys certainly go through a lot, they are always at the bottom of my bag so they have weight on them. There’s always dust and lint in the bottom from adventures in rougher climates, and occasionally a bottle leaks in there.

Luckily the AirNotch Pro Dual has a rating of IP68, meaning its water and dust resistant as well as the materials making it impact resistant. 

Batteries and Battery Life

Instead of being rechargeable, this Bluetooth tracker instead has replaceable batteries. It takes two CR2032 batteries which are easily findable wherever you are. This gives you roughly around 20 months of tracking before they’ll need replacing. Of course there are always variances with some battery brands being better than others. 

AirNotch Pro Dual: Final Thoughts

As I’ve said before, trackers are just essential nowadays. It doesn’t matter how careful you are things get lost, or worse, stolen. Having a finder attached to what’s important just makes your life so much easier. 

As I said with the AirCard Pro Dual, I really don’t know where Rolling Square can improve next. The software is mostly controlled by Apple and Google, and apart from niche designs, I’m not sure how the design can be improved. Whatever it is, I’m sure Rolling Square have thought of it, and I’m excited to see what comes next.
