2026 is shaping up to be a year of travel for me, and I am always on the lookout for new backpacks. I was checking Gregory out at the National Outdoor Show 2026 when they offered to send a few bags for me to test, including a new backpack, the Rhune 25l.

Rhune 25l: First impressions
The Rhune 25l arrived the day before I flew to Marmaris with Jet2. The timing could not have been more perfect. Originally I had the agreement to test the Rhune 25l in the Peak District and Las Vegas, but when it arrived whilst I was packing it seemed too perfect.
I needed a suitcase to get me to a hotel, and the backpack matched my itinerary. I would have days in markets exploring with my camera, but also others at sea and bouncing along dusty roads in Jeeps.

Urban Backpacks
This is the Rhune 25l, one of Gregory’s line of “Urban Backpacks”. Products designed to be sleek in the city, but rugged outdoors. So naturally I took this with me to both of those places to test.
I took this backpack with me to Las Vegas, the Nevada Desert, Peak District and Marmaris in Turkey. Each different environment with their own tests. And I can tell you exactly how it stood out.
In the Las Vegas
For exploring the city, the Rhune 25l was comfortable all day long. It was a blistering 45℃, so I’m glad in the dead heat of the city it was still comfortable to carry. I made sure there was a bottle of drink in the side pocket at all times. I wish it was a little bit deeper though so it could hold bottles more comfortably.
In the Desert
The bag did pick up a bit of dirt, but most surfaces wiped clean. I was racing UTVs so I wasn’t wearing it a huge amount, but when I did my back didn’t overheat or feel stifled, especially when I was exploring Goodsprings.
In the Peak District
On my recent trip to the Peak District, I didn’t need too much as I was often going back and forth to the car to switch up my equipment. But I needed my hands to climb, so I would use it to carry my drone and camera whilst I did. When I reached my spot, it was easy to get

In Turkey
I used this bag almost daily in Turkey, it had plenty of space for all I needed. Carrying my Sony A7CII in a Urth Arkose Camera Cube, with plenty of room left over for my DJI Pocket Osmo 3 and Neo 2 Drone.
It did pick up a bit of dirt on the Jeep Safari, the majority of which wiped clean easily. Although a bit of orange sand is stuck in the back padding.
Materials
The Rhune 25L is made from Recycled 300D Polyester Ripstop with a C0 DWR coating. I love bags that use recycled materials, I think it’s really important in this day and age. But being recycled doesn’t make this bag feel any less rugged or premium.
DWR Water Repellency
You’ll find the Rhune 25l has been coating with C0 DWR, making the bag water repellent. Of course it will only repel water for so long, but it’ll provide some comfort if you’re caught out in the elements as this bag is designed for.
I hadn’t heard of C0 DWR before, but its a newer process hailed to be the future of waterproof clothing. It replaces older fluorocarbon coating which would be harmful for the environment. You still need to take care of it and reactivate the coating occasionally, but it helps care for the environment you want to take this bag and explore.
Style
This is a Gregory Backpack, so it’s very obviously built for adventure. And that shows in its look. Personally I think that goes great for my style and look, and I have happily carried this across cities with me, as well as into nature.
Style is all about context, and I want gear that’s adaptable. Although I may not wear it for some networking events, days exploring the city, getting through airports and navigating the peaks, it’s perfect.
I also love the little touches that they add to the bag. The inner lining is a bright yellow, which helps make it easier to see items. And the stitching could be basic, but instead it has phrases like “Make Time for Friends and Family” and “Make Time to hang”. The last thing I expected from a bag was words of affirmation, but I genuinely love it.

Colour Options for the Rhune 25l
Currently the Rhune 25L comes in three colour options. Carbon Black, Sand Storm and Swiss Green. My version is in Swiss Green which I love. I do feel the colour changes the perception of what it’s designed for. The Carbon Black looks a little more suited for the city, Sand Storm adventures, and Swiss Green makes the perfect middle compromise.
Storage
I like open bucket design backpackpacks, it makes it much easier to pack all my tech. Since I keep most of my tech in pouches or cubes anyway, I can often quickly spot what I need and grab it.
There is a laptop sleeve, perfect for my tablet. I always carry it with me when I travel, as it’s as powerful as I need it to be, but much lighter and more versatile than my laptop.
Built into the lining of the sleeve are various pockets, including a mesh one, that makes it a lot easier to store your smaller items. I usually keep a power bank and cable in here, as they would slide to the bottom and under a camera cube in the main pouch.
Rhune 25l Build Quality and Durability
The last few weeks, this bag hasn’t had a clue what I’ll be throwing at it. But it survived it all masterfully. I checked it all out on its arrival, and was happy. The zips ran smooth, the stitching was well done with no snags.
A few months on and countless hours of wearing, and it’s hardly gotten a scratch. Everything still looks great, it washes up well when needed and you’d easily mistake this bag as brand new. Of course you do have to care and maintain for this bag, as you would with any other. But no doubt this would last a lifetime of adventure.
Travel Features
The Rhune 25l is full of great travel features, I love the variety of pockets that make organisation easy, including along the internal laptop pocket.
On the exterior there is more than one pocket. You have a large main pocket in the front, which works great when the bag is empty, but when your bag is tightly packed limits the availability of space. You also have a side pocket for water bottles. I would prefer this to be a little bit deeper so that the bottle is more secure, but also you could fit some smallish tripods.
You have a smaller, discreet side / front pocket, with a clip for keys. No one would think to check here which makes it perfect for items that you may want quick access too. I would still be uncomfortable putting my wallet or ID here but it does make it harder for items to be found.
How is the Rhune 25l to wear
Across all my trips, I have found the Rhune 25l to be comfortable. It has a chest strap which helps with any larger weights, but I haven’t so far felt a need to use it. Even in airports when my bag is usually at its limit there hasn’t been an issue.
Where to use the Rhune 25l
This is a daypack bag, but perfect for adventures. As I mentioned, this bag has pretty much been around the world with me. Style and design wise, its more suited towards day hikes, and adventures. But I think the Rhune 25l means you can easily wear it in the city.
The 25l size is perfect for living out for a few days. If I brought my smaller camera gear, like the DJI Pocket OSMO, there is plenty of room left for a few days worth of clothes, chargers and a toiletry bag.

Who is the Rhune 25l for?
The Rhune 25l is a backpack for adventurers. Whether that’s as an everyday bag city or on dirt roads in the backcountry. Place it anywhere, and it just works.
The AirCushion backpanel helped keep me cool on hot underground in the city, the comfortable straps made sure my camera hear was supported but still comfortable on long days, and the internal organisation meant I can find what I needed without any unnecessary rummaging.
Price and Value
Backpacks are an item you want to invest in, a good backpack will last you for a lifetime worth of adventures. Currently the price is £110, which I think for a backpack you know is going to be able to handle whatever you throw at it is a steal.
It’s comfortable, it’s well thought out, and it’s rugged. Not to mention it comes with Gregory’s lifetime warranty.
Gregory Lifetime Warranty
All brand new backpacks come with Gregory’s Lifetime Warranty. That means they will cover any defects in materials or workmanship for as long as you own it. As always, there are some conditions to this.
It does not cover misuse, only manufacturing defects are covered. So accidents, abrasions, transport damage as examples of what’s not covered. You can see a full list and conditions here.
The list specifically states that using your gear as a toboggan is not covered, which I love as that implies someone had the audacity to try and make that claim.
Rhune 25l: Final Thoughts
The Rhune 25l is a bag that fits everyone, but still manages to perform well. If you are the city worker who dreams of spending their weekends on day hikes, or you’re a seasoned traveller who might take the odd trip to the city, it works equally as well for you both.
As a brand Gregory have been making bags since 1977, and it’s clear they have put every ounce of their learning into this backpack. And with more adventures on the horizon, it will no doubt be with me on many more.
